It still may be a bit chilly in the mornings, but Guildford Lido is opening for its summer season this Saturday (April 26), with the mayor taking the first dip.
The Mayor, Diana Locker-Nibbs, will be swiftly followed by Freedom Leisure Lido season ticket holders
The lido has three new slides for additional excitement, plus a newly refurbished paddling pool with interactive toys and a mini-slide for smaller swimmers.
“Outdoor swimming is one of the most enjoyable ways to be active on a warm day,” said Freedom Leisure area manager Steve May. “The atmosphere at Guilford Lido is amazing and when the temperatures rise, there is no better way to refresh yourself than jumping into a nice cool pool.”
Swimmers can enjoy programmes including early morning swimming, evening and public sessions. Guildford Lido is one of the few surviving 1930s outdoor pools in the UK. Maintained to the highest standard, the Olympic sized pool is heated to 24 degrees C (weather permitting).

Did the Mayor actually enter the water? Looks rather dry to me!
[Editor: Yes she did back in June. And she swam two lengths at the opening of the Lido for the 2014 summer season. Report to follow soon. I am informed that the mayor is a regular season ticket holder at the lido.]
