An “official opening of the green” has taken place at Merrow Village Bowls Club.
Club president Tony Oldland made a brief speech declaring the green open and then bowled the first bowl on Sunday, April 16.
Some informal matches followed, with members gaining a feel for the surface after the winter break.
The green is much improved as a result of work carried out by club members last autumn.
David Raison from the club said: “We hope that they enjoy the fruits of their labours over the coming season.”
The club has an open day on Sunday, May 7, from 10am to noon and 2pm to 4pm.
David Raison added: “Just come along with some flat shoes or trainers, and we’ll give you an introduction to bowls: how to hold the bowl, delivering the bowl, and other useful hints and tips. You will be able to try bowling on our recently improved green (we will provide the bowls to suit your hands) and get friendly help from our members.
“We can show you what fun it is to play bowls and you can meet some great people. Bowls is a sociable sport and we welcome all ages.”
