A 92-year-old man who died in a house fire at an address in the Guildford area over the weekend has been formally identified as Frederyk Kucharsk of Slyfield Green.
A forensic post-mortem carried out yesterday (July 12) established that Mr Kucharski died as a result of the fire.
Police launched a murder enquiry following the death Mr Kucharski on Thursday, 11 July. He had been in hospital since the incident occurred at a residential property shortly before 12.30am on Saturday, 6 July.
Officers are continuing to carry out a thorough and extensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and are urging any members of the public with information to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested in the vicinity of the offence and have been released on bail until August 9. A further two people, a 37-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, were arrested later that day and have now been been rearrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody. All four were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

A terribly sad situation and my condolences go to the gentleman’s family friends.
Local residents have mentioned to me that they found the police teams handling of the situation reassuring and so, on behalf of the community, I would like to say thank you to the police for the sensitive and professional way they have handled this difficult incident.
