The Nando’s branch in Friary Street, Guildford, was closed without warning on Thursday (January 30).
A sign in the window read: “Due to maintenance and repair issues we will not be open until the problem is resolved.” A search on Google Maps showed the restaurant as ‘Temporarily Closed”.
No date was given for re-opening.
The windows had been covered with paper but some of the screens had fallen away by Sunday. No activity was detected.
Friary Street is packed with at least 10 other restaurants and fast-food outlets on both sides.
They include the Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Yo! Sushi, Hungry Buddha, Veg Me, Fresco Deli Kafessen, Wagamama, Five Guys, SourDough Pizza, ThaiKhun and Tortilla.
Nando’s, the South African restaurant chain specialising in Portuguese food, is a popular venue for the young and families, often with queues stretching on to the pavement.
There has been social media speculation about reasons for the shutdown. The Guildford Dragon NEWS has asked Nando’s for an explanation.
