A new defibrillator has been installed by the Castle Green Bowls Club in the town centre.

The club supported by donations from individuals and businesses in Guildford, purchased the defibrillator which has been positioned in busy Tunsgate facing the entrance of the Castle Grounds.
A small ceremony to mark the event was held on Friday (September 1) and was attended by Guildford’s MP Angela Richardson, club president Jonathan Reading, club member and British Heart Foundation fundraiser Shirley West BEM, John Reeves fundraising organiser at the club and Hon Freeman Keith Churchouse and Esther Dadswell from Chapters Financial.
Angela Richardson said: “It was a pleasure to attend the ceremony last Friday and see the new defibrillator in place opposite the Castle Grounds. It will make a huge difference to our town with the potential to save lives in the community.
“I commend all involved in the fundraising initiative including the Castle Green Bowling Club and the various supporting donors and businesses. It is a fantastic example of how our community can come together and deliver positive change for the people of Guildford.”
And club member Shirley West BEM said: “Defibrillators save lives so it’s good that we have one positioned by Tunsgate and the Castle Grounds which is said to receive 400,000 visitors each year.”

Please also note that there are defibrillators in Merrow (location unknown) and the Burpham Community Association has two installed, one at Sutherland Memorial Park, the other outside the Aldi Entrance.
Andy Clapham, the Burpham Community Association Chairman, deserves great praise for being the instigator and chief of the money-raising action in Burpham.
