Rosa’s Thai Restaurant in Friary Street

Fans of Thai cuisine will soon have another Guildford restaurant to choose from.

Rosa’s Thai will open its doors on Friary Street in Guildford on Monday, February 5. To celebrate, they will hold a soft launch offering 50 per cent off food to all guests who make a booking for a table between January 23 and February 4.

The restaurant will form the latest part of an expanding chain co-founded by Saiphin and Alex Moore in 2008.

Saiphin’s started serving food at a young age, when at just 14 she opened a noodle shop in Khao Kho, Thailand using produce from her parents’ farm. She then moved to Hong Kong where she opened a restaurant and spent 18 years honing her culinary skills, before relocating to London and opening a market stall with Alex on Brick Lane, in the East End of London, in 2007.

One year later they took over the nearby Rosa’s Cafe in Spitalfields, inheriting its name because they didn’t have the means to change it at the time. The name stuck, and 15 years later there are 38 Rosa’s Thai restaurants across the UK including: London, Liverpool, Leeds, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, York, Exeter, Bath, Oxford, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The team appeared to be receiving a pre-opening briefing when this photo was taken.

According to the company’s press release, customers can expect “an unfussy yet exciting menu with ingredients sourced directly from family-owned businesses in Thailand”.

Rosa’s Thai Guildford is located in what has become a centre for eating out, Friary Street, centrally located between the bottom of the High Street and the Friary Centre.  The 70-cover restaurant will have a further six covers for al fresco dining in the warmer months.

Of the launch, CEO Gavin Adair says: “I’m so pleased to be opening our doors in Guildford. It feels like somewhere we should already be.”
