Balloon sellers add a pleasant splash of colour to any street scene and Guildford is no exception.

The balloon seller in the photo, who was seen at the bottom of North Street this morning (Saturday 21 April), gave his name as Sami. He comes from Croatia and sells balloons in different towns in the south east.

He told me that there were 50 balloons in the bunch he was holding (I thought there seemed to be more than that) and that they represented about a week’s worth of sales. He was charging £3 per balloon, large or small.

“Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon” is a quote from ‘Winnie the Pooh’. The illustrator of the books, E H Shepard, used to live in Guildford.
