On Wednesday May 26, at 7.30pm local historian and author David Rose will be giving his illustrated talk Guildford’s Lost Shops via Zoom as a charity fundraising event for Guildford Lions Club to support our local community.

Access to the Zoom link is just £5.

Who remembers Jeffery’s sports shop?

David says: “Guildford has changed from being a small market town to a regional centre. This change is reflected in the High Street with its famous granite setts and also North Street.

“My talk includes many photographs from the late 19th century and on through the 20th century of family run shops that once prevailed and the national multiples as they arrived.

“Some people may have heard this talk before, as it’s a popular one that I have given to many local groups and societies. However, I will be updating it this time with further pictures I have recently added to my collection.

“And I can now include Debenhams as well, as it’s just closed for the last time!”
