The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is inviting the public to immerse themselves in the hidden and intriguing world of insects at RHS Garden Wisley during National Insect Week.

From Wednesday, June 20 to Sunday, June 24, an expert team of entomologists will celebrate these fascinating creatures.

Visitors to the Glasshouse Gallery will be able take part in a variety of fun insect-themed activities and view informative displays.

There will be microscopes available for visitors to explore the intricate structure of butterfly wings, complex eyes of honeybees and the minute patterns of ladybird wing cases.

Additionally, fascinating collections of preserved British ladybirds and wild bees will be on show at this special event.

Wisley’s entomologists (insect experts) will also be on hand to showcase live displays, including a selection of insects found inhabiting Wisley, and tropical cockroaches.

Dr Andrew Salisbury, RHS Principal Entomologist, said: “We look forward to introducing visitors to the fascinating world of insects; the little things than run the world.”

Wisley’s insect exhibit will be open from 11am to 2pm Wednesday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Normal garden admission will apply.

In addition to the National Insect Week celebrations at Wisley, there will be an insect-themed family trail to follow through the garden for six weeks, starting on Monday, June 18. For further details, visit www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/wisley.
