Notice: Guildford Rambling Club Welcomes Walkers

Published on: 24 Oct, 2019
Updated on: 21 Oct, 2019

The Guildford Rambling Club was formed in 1973, an offshoot of an older, London-based, club.

The club’s overall purpose is to give its members the opportunity to enjoy walking in the varied and beautiful countryside around Guildford and neighbouring counties.

In addition, the club arranges holidays and members have walked in Shropshire, Swanage, the Cotswolds and Lake Bled in Slovenia. Some members also completed the coast to coast walk from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the coast of North Yorkshire. In June 2020 the club plans a visit to the Peak District.

Guildford Rambling Club meets regularly on Sundays for a walk of around eight to 10 miles, though some have a shorter option built-in. The club also meets on a weekday (usually Thursday mornings) for a shorter walk of around five miles.

Some evening walks also take place in the summer months and there are occasional social gatherings.

With a membership of around 45, walks generally consist of an average of seven to 15 people.

Members are encouraged to share lifts to each meeting point.

Visitors – including anyone holidaying in the area – are welcome to walk and can do so up to three times before deciding whether or not to join.

The club is affiliated to the Ramblers Association and supports their footpath conservation work.

An annual membership subscription of £7 (couples £12) applies.
