A total of 800 runners have already entered the Hog’s Back Road Race, which is returning for its 57th year on Sunday, December 10.
The historic race raises funds for Guildford and Godalming Athletics Club (GGAC), and is delivered by organisers aat-events.
With almost all of the 1,000 available places sold, the race is set to sell out in record time – faster than it has done in 56 years. Those wishing to take part are urged to enter now.
In recognition of the event’s increasing popularity, a number of new features have been added to the race.
Event sponsors Wilkins Kennedy will be providing a fuel station roughly 5km into the 11.7km race. They will be handing out jelly beans and sugary sweets to refuel runners at the top of The Mount in Guildford.
Wilkins Kennedy has a team of 10 runners taking part, and they will be looking forward to receiving support from their colleagues on the route. Bob Southey, Partner at Wilkins Kennedy and one of the team, said: “We thought it would be a good idea to give runners a bit of a lift as they climb the hill towards the halfway point. It’s also a good opportunity for the crowd to cheer on the runners as they pass.”
Starting and finishing at Loseley House, runners will follow a professional race pacing team along a fully-marked and measured route to the Hog’s Back – where they will enjoy views from the North Downs ridge across the Surrey countryside.
All runners receive a cheeky pig medal and complimentary refreshments, and can treat themselves to Giggly Pig sausage baps, hot drinks from Cafe2U, sports massage by Guildford Sports Clinic, and Hog’s Back Road Race “buffs” – proceeds of which go to GGAC. Sponsors Hogs Back Brewery and Fitstuff are providing prizes to the first few finishers.
Those wanting to take part are urged to secure a place as soon as possible. Visit http://aat-events.com/race/hogs-back-road-race for further details.
