Notice: Installation On Display At Albury Old Saxon Church

The Friends of Albury Old Saxon Church have secured the latest installation by nationally recognised champion of the installation arts, Mary Branson.

Her latest exhibition entitled A Conversation With My Mother has just opened and continues from 7pm to 9pm each evening through to Easter Monday, April 2. The artist will give a talk in the church at 7pm on Saturday, March 24.

Mary Branson specialises in large-scale installations, often in unique spaces, including a number that have been temporarily located in the Surrey countryside. She uses light, sound and repetitive forms to create works that are often conceptual, minimal and abstract, but always underpinned with multiple layers of meaning and symbolism.

Following her recent post as artist in residence to the House of Commons, Mary created New Dawn – a seven metre high permanent light sculpture in the Westminster Hall. With 2018 marking the centenary of the right of women to vote, the work is a celebration of the women’s suffrage movement. New Dawn is the first piece of permanent contemporary art in the Palace of Westminster, and is viewed by close to a million visitors each year.

A Conversation With My Mother, is Mary’s most recent project, first installed in the Swiss Church, Covent Garden, during January and February. This personal piece explores the notion of ‘frozen grief’ for those dealing with loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Albury Old Saxon Church is located in Albury Park, Albury, GU5 9BB. For more information, contact info@alburyoldsaxonchurch.org.
