Guildford-based mental health charity Oakleaf Enterprise is hosting host a fundraising fire walk in celebration of World Mental Health Day, Thursday, October 10.
It says it will “give supporters and local businesses the opportunity to challenge mind over matter by walking over hot coals and gaining sponsorship for Oakleaf”.
The fire walk will take place at Guildford Cricket Club in Woodbridge Road and will be an opportunity not only to challenge those taking part, but to team-build and to network with other local businesses and supporters of Oakleaf.
The day will commence for participants at 11am, starting with an hour of training from Guinness World Record holder Scott Bell of UK Firewalk, followed by the walk.
Certificates will be presented by Oakleaf Patron Dame Penelope Keith.
To round off the day, there will be a barbecue and a performance from one of Oakleaf’s music groups. The event will finish at 2pm.
The entry fee is £30, which includes lunch, with a minimum sponsorship target of £70.
Friends and family are encouraged to go along and cheer on the brave participants and refreshments will be available for them to buy.
Oakleaf has been working to support some of the most vulnerable adults in the local community since 1997.
Its beneficiaries are adults aged 16 to 67 suffering from any mental illness, including schizophrenia, depression, bi-polar disorder and anxiety.
Oakleaf helps them address multiple problems of social isolation, unemployment, poverty and discrimination, helping them to overcome huge barriers, working with them to rebuild their future.
Through work-related training, wellbeing activities and a counselling service, this support gives individuals practical skills and the confidence needed to return to the workplace.
