In celebration of its 40th anniversary, Pranksters Theatre Company returns to Guildford Castle Grounds with a retro production of As You Like It by William Shakespeare, set in 1977 – the year the company was founded.
Performances run from Friday to Saturday, July 21 to 29 at 7:45pm in the Castle Grounds, Castle Street, Guildford GU1 3SX. There is no performance on Sunday, July 23.
Featuring some of Shakespeare’s best-loved characters, where all the threads are untangled at the end with a touch of magic, As You Like It never fails to entertain.
Rosalind falls in love with the wronged Orlando and along with her cousin Celia, flees in disguise from a grey jubilee and punk London to find her exiled father and a collection of eccentric characters in the wilds of Epping Forest. There she meets Orlando again, and under the guise of a young man, counsels him in the art of love.
The tale of romance, cross-dressing and confusion will take you back to the 1970s, alongside many familiar songs. Perfect for the whole family, you can take a picnic and sit back and enjoy an evening of open-air entertainment
Pranksters Theatre Company has been an established fixture performing both contemporary and classic plays in the open air, inside Guildford Castle and at the Electric Theatre over the last four decades. Its members are delighted to mark the company’s 40th anniversary with this colourful and contemporary twist to one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies.
Tickets cost £14 (adult) £12 (concessions) and are available from Guildford Tourist Information Centre 01483 444334 or visit https://tickets.visitguildford.com/en-GB/shows/shakespeare’s%20as%20you%20like%20it/events.

An excellent performance on Saturday evening despite the rain, I would thoroughly recommend going. A high standard for an amateur group putting some professionals to shame. The backdrop of the Castle Grounds makes it all the more engaging.
