Five gifted young musicians beat off stiff competition from more than 20 competitors in the Guildford Symphony Orchestra’s (GSO) Jellinek Competition.
It means they have won a chance to perform as soloists in its Una Clark Young Artists’ Concert.
The concert, named after a dedicated former GSO member, takes place at 12.30pm on Saturday, January 26, in the beautiful purpose-built St Catherine’s School concert hall in Bramley.
This year’s soloists are Zacharias Brandman, piano; Toby Cook, viola; Francesca Cox, oboe; Elizaveta Saul, violin; and Laura MacDonald, cello,; all playing concerto first movements.
Go and be dazzled by such young musical ability. Zach is only 16 years and still at school, but he will be playing Schumann’s Piano Concerto with extraordinary aplomb and maturity.
The other soloists are studying on scholarships at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, so they are the crème de la crème.
Toby will perform the Walton Viola Concerto, Francesca Strauss’s Oboe Concerto, Elizaveta Prokofiev’s 2nd Violin Concerto and Laura Dvorak’s Cello Concerto.
Tickets are available from GSO box office: 01483 415847 or the Guildford Tourist Information Centre: 01483 444334. Or on the GSO website www.g-s-o.org.uk.
