On Wednesday, Feburary 13, Brian Stater will give a talk for the Arts Society Guildford entitled When Britain Clicked – Fab Photos of the Swinging Sixties.
British photography enjoyed a golden age in the 1960s. Young, talented newcomers broke the studio conventions to revolutionise perceptions of fashion, portraiture and popular culture.
The talk will look at the works of David Bailey, Jane Brown, Tony Ray Jones and Terence Donovan, among others.
Brian Stater’s interests lie in photography, architecture and history and he combines all three in his lecturing career. He has taught at University College London since 1997 and an exhibition of his own photographs has been staged at UCL.
Arts Society Guildford meets at Onslow Village Hall, The Square, Wilderness Road, Guildford, GU2 7QR.
Lectures start at 8pm (doors open at 7.30pm when refreshments will be available) on the second Wednesday of the month (except July and August) for lectures on a wide variety of arts-related subjects.
Visitors £10, full time students £3. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from Guildford Tourist Information Centre in Guildford High Street. Phone 01483 444333 or email: tic@guildford.org.uk.
