Police officers raided two shops yesterday (Thursday, August 1) looking for stolen goods. Following the discovery of quantity of computer equipment, cigarettes and chocolates, three people were arrested.
The arrests, were made on suspicion of handling stolen goods, by police officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, acting on intelligence. They carried out the raids under section 26 of the Theft Act at two commercial premises.
The arrestees were two men, a 51-year-old and an 18-year-old and a 40-year-old woman, all from the Guildford area. All three are currently on bail and are due to report back on September 19.
PC Lewis Grenyer said: “The execution of these warrants at town centre shops should serve as a warning to all shopkeepers in the borough that Surrey Police will not tolerate any retailers acting outside of the law. In today’s strained economic climate, residents and visitors to the area need to know they are getting a fair and legitimate sale of goods in our local stores.”
