Reports of widespread power failures in Guildford this morning have been received. One unconfirmed report claimed that six substations had ‘blown’.
UK Power Networks have made the following statement: “Our engineers are working as quickly as safely possible to restore electricity supplies to 199 customers in Guildford.
“A fault on our underground electricity network at 3.34am initially affected 1,645 customers in the Farnham Road area of town. Power was restored to the majority of customers (1,060) in an hour and a further 386 supplies were restored in stages between 4.56am and 9.08am. We can assure customers that all our efforts are focused on reconnecting the remaining supplies in the quickest way possible.
“We understand how difficult it is being without electricity and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
At 4.20pm they issued the following update statement: “UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly as safely possible to restore electricity supplies to customers in Guildford who were affected by a power failure today (November 2).”
The final set of customers bar 10 had power restored by 11.30am. The final 10 customers had power again at 3.46pm.
The spokesperson concluded: “We understand how difficult it is being without electricity, especially at this time of year, and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”

This time it lasted eight hours.
