A power cut at Spectrum Leisure Centre forced them to close down nearly all activities for six hours yesterday (May 14).
Manager Geoff Lawrence said: “There was a power outage yesterday which commenced at 2.30pm. The power was restored at 8.30pm.
“We had to shut down the ice rink, the gym, the swimming pool and the ten-pin bowling. The only activity that could continue was a boxing event; we simply opened some blinds to provide sufficient light.”
Fortunately, the power cut did not last long enough for the ice in the ice rink to thaw but skating on the ice, while the temperature could not be controlled, could have damaged it.
The centre is fully operational today.
Lawrence said he knew nothing of a report that there had been a fight in the centre’s car park following the boxing event.
