Guildford’s Pranksters Theatre Company returns to the Electric Theatre as part of Guildford Amateur Theatre Association’s Autumn Festival. From November 9 to 12, the company will stage Luigi Pirandello’s Six Characters Looking for an Author.
In a new version of the play, adapted by David Harrower, six characters, abandoned by their author, desperately need a writer to complete their story.
Trapped inside a traumatic event from which they long to escape, they believe only acting out the scenes that were written for them will release them.
It falls to one unwitting director and her hapless team of actors to take on their quest, picking up their troubled family story.
Guilty secrets unfold as the surreal rehearsals take shape – but are the characters more real than the actors? The play asks probing questions about the nature of reality versus illusion, truth versus artifice and the workings of the creative process. One way or another, their tragic story must be told.
Performances of the play will begin at 8pm. Tickets cost £14 (full) or £12 (students) and are available from the Electric Theatre box office. Call 01483 444789 or visit www.electrictheatre.co.uk. A 10% discount will apply when purchasing tickets for three productions in the GATA Autumn Festival.
