A 41-year-old Guildford man, seen drunk and carrying an axe in the Shalford Road in August, has been jailed for 26 weeks.
Daniel Paul Alan Knight, of no fixed address, was convicted at Staines magistrates court on Tuesday, October 29.
The magistrates also granted police a three-year criminal behaviour order (CBO), saying that was necessary to prevent Knight’s prolific anti-social behaviour and to protect the public.
A police statement read: “The CBO now prohibits him from entering the town centre, and also from behaving in a manner, or from inciting others to behave in a manner, either verbally or physically, which would cause or likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons in Guildford.”
A force spokesperson said: “Anti-social behaviour in Guildford won’t be tolerated, which is why we applied for a CBO.
“We’d like to thank the members of the public who helped us to secure this conviction and the CBO because no-one should be subjected to anti-social behaviour like this in the street. Their contribution is helping to keep people safe in Guildford.”
No photograph of Knight has been issued because his sentence was less than 12 months, so the case does not meet the necessary criteria.
