The British Heart Foundation’s Ramp up the Red event encouraged people to wear something red and have fun raising funds.
Staff and members at Guildford Spectrum raised £185 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) on Friday last week.
Spectrum is run by Freedom Leisure on behalf of Guildford Borough Council. Area manager Steve May said: “The British Heart Foundation is Freedom Leisure’s chosen charity this year and I was delighted our members ‘ramped up the red’ in the British Heart Foundation’s fight for every heartbeat.
“Many people with heart disease can’t swim, cycle, do a gym circuit or complete an exercise class: our members can do these things and were happy to show their support for the charity.”
At St Francis’ Church in Beckingham Road, parishioners raised £130 for the BHF on Sunday. The event was all the more special as the Bishop of Dorking, the Rt Rev’d Ian Brackley, was the morning’s preacher.
Guildford area chairman for the BHF Shirley West was at St Francis’ and said: “What a wonderful way to close Ramp up the Red. The rector, Stefanie Hodges, and all her congregation dressed in red.
“We then enjoyed a lovely lunch together. I would like to thank everyone there, including Bishop Ian, for helping to make it a successful weekend.”
