Christmas cheer and excited children were in clear evidence as The G4 Residents’ Association filled Shaftesbury Hall, in Artillery Terrace yesterday for a lively festive gathering with mince pies and mulled wine.

One of the first stops for many, to get into the Christmas spirit, was the mulled wine table, manned by Shauna Stanton and Cllr Caroline Reeves.

One of the organisers Cllr Caroline Reeves (Lib Dem, Friary & St Nicolas) said: “We are very lucky to live in such a friendly community so close to the town centre. I have lived here for twenty five years and it is so good to see so many families with young children are moving here.”

The attendance of around 70 residents was even better than expected. Cllr Reeves continued: “After the success of our Jubilee Street Party the committee of jubilee-apron-wearing-residents had been a little concerned that there wouldn’t be many people at this event but thankfully we were proved wrong! It was great to see so many of our friends and neighbours, and for new residents to meet everyone.”

The G4 Residents’ Association (named after the post-code) was originally set up to improve the parking situation in the area. It covers George, Artillery and Church Roads, Artillery Terrace, Stoke Fields and Stoke Grove. Cllr Reeves explained: “Newer residents may think that parking is a major problem now, but before the current system of residents’ parking permits it was a free-for-all that caused many arguments. The increase in resident only bays, a few years ago, improved things further.

“We extended the area we cover to include Sandfield Terrace, Haydon Place and College Road when the Bellerby site application came forward so that all the residents affected could have a voice. We have a very successful Facebook group that is widely used for swapping information and updates, especially from the council and the town centre police team.”

FadeAnd where would any residents' event be without a tombola?

Looks like a great time was had by all. Merry Christmas to all of our former neighbours, and of course to TGDN [The Guildford Dragon NEWS] and I hope Santa rewards your good behaviour over the past 12 months!

Thank you Ollie. I am sure all those at G4 would return your seasonal wishes, as we do from TGDN. Hope life is still rosy on the Moray Firth?
