The Royal Surrey County Hospital is asking its supporters to donate a Christmas Box for an elderly patient.
A spokesman for the hospital said: “As we all know, there are patients who have to remain in hospital over the festive period and some of them have no family visits during their stay.
“With your help, we can surprise and delight those patients making it a little special as they receive a gift to open on Christmas morning.”
Simply donate a decorated shoe box containing a few gifts. Suggested items include scarves and hats, magazines and puzzle books, knitted knee blankets, framed postcards – perhaps of local scenes – toiletries and nail varnish, handkerchiefs, adult colouring books and pencils, or small interest books on subjects such as sport, crafts, natural history or famous people through history.
The boxes should remain unsealed and labelled to indicate whether they are suitable for male or female patients (or for either).
Please take boxes to the Fundraising Office (located on the right, just inside the main entrance to the hospital) by Friday, December 16.
Louise Stead, director of nursing and patient experience said: “No-one wants to spend Christmas in hospital and for some of our most vulnerable patients this small gesture will mean so much.”
