Ben Darnton, the owner of Ben’s Collector’s Record Shop in Tunsgate, Guildford, has been filmed for a new series about shops and shopping that goes out on BBC Two this coming Monday.
He will feature in the first of three programmes called Robert Peston Goes Shopping. This Monday’s edition goes out on BBC Two at 9pm.
Peston is the BBC’s news business editor. This series looks at retail trends and shops in the UK since the end of the Second World War.
Ben said: “Filming took place in April and the Robert and his crew were here for about three hours.
“He interviewed me and also did several pieces to camera while in my shop. He was lucky as it was a fairly quiet here at the time. But I also turned the music down a bit!
“I have no idea how much or little of me and my shop will be featured, but it will be worth seeing.”
Ben admits that other commitments on Monday evening means he may not see the the programme when it goes out. No doubt he’ll view it on catch up later!
In fact, it’s not the first time that TV crews have found Ben’s shop– a place that is packed to the gunnels with used CDs, vinyl, books and DVDs.
Ben said: “I had a crew from Come Dine With Me in here a while ago. One of the contestants who was interviewed had that bit filmed here in my shop. I’ve no idea why they did it here – and he hasn’t been back in as far as I know.
