If you want a “great welcome, great coffee and freshly made food” and shop deli-style for things you won’t find anywhere else in Guildford, Deli Italy, the Italian deli and coffee shop, is for you, says owner and manager Marigona Shabani.
she said: “We have only been open for two months but we already have our regulars and every day, we are getting new customers. People really like our salami and the cheese. It’s so different from what you can buy here in other shops.”
Deli Italy is in The Shambles, the little known, tiny alley just off the most sought after location in the High Street. The medieval street, originally for Guildford’s slaughterhouses and butchers, is now home to three Italian ventures. The Shambles is becoming a little Italy with a Sicilian flavour!
The newly managed Deli Italy looks inviting and it will be a great boost for the street where the always busy Sicool Sicilian cafe and a new, soon to open, Italian restaurant are already located.
Marigona is enthusiastic about her plans: “We have seating for around 20 now but we are going to cover the outside area for more capacity. And we will soon be on Deliveroo as well.”
They have three staff and Marigona said they will shortly be recruiting for more.
She said: “We sell a selection of pastas, olives, salami, cheeses, wine, prosecco, biscuits and pantone. It all comes from Sicily and it is the best quality.
“We also have freshly cooked pasta to eat in the deli and to take away and, of course, paninis.”
It is a lovely and original shop and a unique addition to the bustling Indie community in the town and, more especially, in The Shambles itself. “We are friends with the other shops here, it’s a nice little community,” said Marigona, happily.
Deli Italy is at 4, The Shambles. You can call on 01483 572528 or visit the Facebook page here.
Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm.
