Eleven enthusiastic skydivers jumped out of an aircraft over Salisbury Plain in the recent blistering heatwave to raise much needed funds for Headway Surrey.
The first-time skydivers were from Merrist Wood Public Services Group and the Godalming Naval Club. They raised a total of £3,555.
The finance and admin manager of Guildford-based Headway Surrey, Maggee Fulleylove, and a member of the Godalming Naval Club, said: “It was a day mixed with tension and laughter. The skydivers showed great bravery and true community spirit.
“I am delighted they all overcame their nerves and managed to complete the jump successfully, raising an incredible amount in the process. All the skydivers had a huge sense of achievement, and I am very proud of them all.”
One of those who did the skydive, Ian Baldwin, said “To jump from a perfectly functional aircraft seems irrational, reckless and downright scary. It turns out to be exciting and exhilarating, then serene and gentle. A genuine challenge for the mind, and a great way to counter a rational fear and raise funds for such a worthy cause.”
Headway Surrey invites other people to experience this thrilling activity and in doing so raise funds for the charity. The funds will be used to support it to provide cognitive rehabilitation therapy for adults with acquired or traumatic brain injury.
Participants need to raise £395 to book a jump and then raise additional funding on top, which will go directly to Headway Surrey. You can choose your airfield and dates to suit.
If you would prefer to raise money by staying on the ground, try a one lap (7km) Nuts Challenge. It is taking place on Saturday, September 1, at 11.20am in Dorking.
Headway Surrey says: “It is perfect for those who want to take on a fun challenge with little experience in obstacle racing. It’s the perfect excuse to just have a go and try something new. There is no pressure so take it at your own pace and only take part on the obstacles you want. This is a popular choice for team building, company fun, charity runners, hen and stag groups and people that just want to give it a go. Make mud angels and have lots of fun!”
