Surrey Councils Urge Residents To Reduce Food Waste

This autumn, the Surrey Environment Partnership (SEP), are urging residents to help the planet and their pockets by reducing how much food they waste. The six-week campaign will provide guidance and tips on how residents can reduce their food waste and save themselves money.

SEP is made up of Surrey County Council and the 11 district and borough councils in the county. It aims to manage Surrey’s recycling and waste in the most efficient, effective, economical and sustainable manner.

Cllr Marisa Heath

Chair of the partnership Cllr Marisa Heath (Con, Englefield Green) and SCC cabinet member for Environment explained: “Cost of living pressures and rising food prices means that there is no better time to start thinking about how we can reduce food waste.

“It’s easier than you think to make savings by only buying what you need, double-checking how best to store food to make it last longer, and using up your leftovers.

She added “When residents save food from being wasted they are not only saving themselves money, but also helping their local council save money in costly disposal costs, money that can be spent on other essential local services.”

The campaign started yesterday, September 2, and will run until mid-October, using a selection of eye-catching campaign creatives across social media, online advertising and print.
