Police ‘Name And Shame’ Those Charged In Anti Drink And Drug-driving Campaign: Three Linked To Guildford

Sixteen people were charged with drink or drug-driving related offences in the second week of December during Surrey Police’s annual crackdown.Surrey police badge 2a

Those who have been charged and whose offences took place in the Guildford area, were named as follows:

Gary Jones, 55, of St Peters Close, Woking was stopped on the A3 near Ripley. He was charged with drink driving and has been released on bail to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on December 23.

Michael David Barlow, 48, of Waterden Road, Guildford was stopped in Guildford. He was charged with drink driving and has been released on bail to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on December 29.

Sophie Harris, 24, of Moore Avenue, Tilbury, Essex, was stopped in Guildford. She was charged with drink driving and has been released on bail to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on December 29.

Surrey Police, jointly with Sussex Police and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, Drive Smart in Surrey and the independent charity Crimestoppers started the campaign named Operation Dragonfly at the beginning of December.

As part of the campaign, the police will be proactively naming people charged for drink or drug-driving related offences. Officers will be Tweeting about people who have been stopped on suspicion of drink or drug-driving offences, giving brief details such as when and where the motorists were pulled over.

police vestAs well as the 16 that have been charged, a further six have been arrested for drink or drug driving related offences and are on bail. In the first week of the campaign, 1o were charged, while a further eight were arrested and are currently on bail.
