In an exclusive interview with The Guildford Dragon NEWS, Surrey’s Chief Constable Gavin Stephens repeats his plea for people to stay at home as much as possible, especially in the warmer weather expected this weekend.
He says that most people are complying with the emergency rules and that no fines or arrests in Surrey have, so far, been necessary. Officers have been told to use a friendly, persuasive approach which has been working.
But continued compliance is required, he says, “to save lives”.
In a wide-ranging interview, Surrey’s senior policeman also answers questions on the impact of the crisis on other areas of criminal activity.
Interview conducted on April 3 by Martin Giles.
