The Covid-19 death toll in Surrey hospitals is approaching 500 this Easter weekend as the national figure approaches 10,000.
It is feared that the peak levels of infection might not yet have been reached and higher mortality rates will continue for the next fortnight. So authorities are urging residents to stay home and continue to carefully comply with the emergency restrictions.
480 Coronavirus related deaths had been recorded up until 5pm yesterday (April 10) at the five Surrey NHS Hospital Trusts: Frimley, Epsom & St Helier; Surrey and Sussex Hospitals (SASH – mainly East Surrey Hospital); Ashford & St Peters; and The Royal Surrey. The hospital catchment areas do not precisely conform to the county boundary and the figures do not include Covid related deaths in care homes.
The daily number of new recorded infections in the county is a little erratic but after a peak on April 1 the infection rate does not appear to be accelerating.
The confirmed infection rate per head of population in the county continues to grow slowly as more cases are identified but until wider testing is carried out the true infection rate will not be known and experts believe many thousands have been infected but shown no or only mild symptoms.
These tables will be regularly updated and shown in a new page section which can be found by clicking on the “Local Covid-19 Stats” title under the main section headings and our banner title.

Is it just me, or do other people find these ‘League Tables’ of the deaths of human beings more than a little distasteful and, frankly, insensitive?
