The Bard In The Bar – Herald Players At The Star

The Seven Sins in Shakespeare is the next Bard in the Bar outing for The Herald Players. The production is a medley of seven scenes and monologues from Shakespeare, taking the audience on a salacious journey through the seven deadly sins from plays including Othello, Macbeth, The Tempest and King Lear.

Seven Sins Flyer v3 complete1It will be staged in the intimate and atmospheric back room of the Star Inn, Quarry Street,  Guildford. It will run from Tuesday, April 30 to Friday, May 3, at 8pm. Tickets are £7.50 at the door.

The script focuses on scenes from Shakespeare in which a central character represents or comments on one of the deadly sins. In editing the script, the directors Gayle Lafone, Elaine Brace and Anne Stuart have drawn on Shakespeare’s tragedies and comedies and are keen to emphasize that audience members do not have to be well-versed in Shakespeare to follow the play.

The production team has worked to make sure the scenes can be understood out of context and the programme will include short notes about each scene and sin.

Following the success of Love in the Park, an evening of amorous scenes from some of Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies played out in Guildford Castle Grounds where they perform an annual outdoor show, Sex in the Text was the Heralds’ first Bard in the Bar venture at the Star Inn. This was a fun and flirtatious, thoughtful and thought-provoking production exploring different aspects of love in scenes from some of Shakespeare’s best loved plays.

Looking forward to seeing this! Really enjoyed previous “Bard in the Bar” production by the Herald Players at The Star Inn.
