The Britannia, one of Guildford’s prominent riverside pubs, is undergoing a £300,000 refurbishment, marking a significant investment by owners Shepherd Neame.

The new-look pub is set to reopen on January 30.

The refurbishment, which began on January 6, includes a complete overhaul of the kitchen and bar, redecorated interiors, and updated toilets.

Improvements to the terrace at the front of the pub aim to make more space for visitors.

In a nod to sustainability, Shepherd Neame has implemented energy-saving measures, including a full electrical upgrade and the installation of new cellar equipment.

While the pub’s transformation is expected to be welcomed by many, it remains to be seen how the community will react to the changes and whether the Britannia’s upgraded facilities and offerings will attract new visitors while retaining its loyal patrons.

It was pricey enough already and Shepherd Neame will want to recoup their outlay.

The pub was charming inside already, I don’t think a refurbishment was necessary.
