While the new Tunsgate Quarter has at times seemed short on footfall, the restaurant at its heart – The Ivy Castle View – has bustled with customers from the day it opened.
This week The Ivy celebrated its first birthday in the town with a party in its private dining room. Guests, who included some of its most frequent diners, snacked on truffle arancini and mini fishcakes, while enjoying stunning views over Guildford Castle.
In honour of its first year in Guildford, the restaurant has launched a golden interior installation and a limited-edition, gold-inspired cocktail, ‘The Golden Plum’. Many accredit the town’s etymology to gold, whilst others suggest this link has developed from the gold sand of the River Wey.
General manager Dan Murton said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating our first year in Guildford. We hope our installation will bring further colour and excitement to the restaurant, and that our guests enjoy sampling our new cocktail.”
Guests at the party praised many aspects of The Ivy, from its convenience as a venue for breakfast meetings to its sumptuous afternoon teas. Accessible from lifts within Tunsgate Quarter, the restaurant ensures a proportion of tables are held back for walk-ins, local residents and businesses, as well as shoppers.
The limited-edition Golden Plum cocktail, available until April 28th, contains fresh pineapple juice, Umeshu plum sake and Choco bitters, topped with Prosecco, and costs £9.75.
