A campaign is set to run next week, from Jun 3, to encourage us all to buy from our local shops.
Local business champions Paul Bridgland and Sally Castro-Gouveia from the Best of Guildford will be from the 3rd to the 9th June be raising awareness of the importance of buying from small local businesses and encouraging more consumers to do so, bringing trusted businesses and the community together.
Sally Castro-Gouveia said: “Many small businesses are struggling in the current economic climate and find it difficult to compete with big chains even though it is those same small businesses that better deserve our trade, offering more personal and more flexible customer service and often higher quality merchandise too.”
Local people can get involved in the Buy Local campaign by pledging to buy local and nominating their favourite independent business at the same time. The pledges are entered into a daily prize draw giving people the chance to win £100 to spend with a Best of Guildford business.
Visitors to the Best of Guildford website will be able to make their pledges online from 3 June.
The MP for Guildford, Anne Milton, is committed to the Buy Local campaign and attended Guildford Connections, one of the business networking events organised by the Best of Guildford, on Wednesday 29 May to show her support.
Another key date in the Buy Local campaign is Wednesday, 5 June, when Sally Castro-Gouveia will be visiting at least ten independent Guildford shops accompanied by Chris Towndrow of London Corporate Media. Chris will be filming Sally talking to the business owners and compiling a video to support the campaign.
On Saturday 8 June, Sally will have a stand in Guildford town centre, promoting independent local businesses and giving away free Buy Local reusable shopping bags.
Business owners and consumers can all support the campaign, both by making a pledge and displaying Buy Local posters and car stickers.
To order stickers or for more information, please contact Sally Castro-Gouveia on sally@bestofguildford.co.uk or by calling 01483 280 039.
