The Refectory at Guildford Cathedral
A tucked away eatery away from the hustle and bustle of town, The Refectory at Guildford Cathedral provides an alternative place for a good catch up with friends.
I had never been to The Refectory before, I had never even thought to go there before now. A spacious room with plenty of tables provided a comfortable and relaxing setting, with no worries about bumping your chair with someone else’s, or having the awkward “excuse me, can I get through” between tables (that is just the worst).
A friend and I went on a Friday lunchtime, expecting a battle for a seat, we were pleasantly surprised that there was a very short waiting time and no concerns about grabbing a table. There was a variety of homemade cakes on offer, as well as the expected drinks (unexpected mini bottles of wine) and some hot food served up by pleasant and helpful staff.
Ordering at the counter is nothing out of the ordinary; however it would have been nice if there had been a couple more staff on hand to bring hot drinks and food to your table for you. The décor was exactly what we had expected for a cathedral refectory, a little bland and out of date, but it was rather quiet which was a nice change from the usual noise of cafes.
