From live broadcasts from Radio 6 and Annie Mac to the chilled out alternative folk sounds of This Is The Kit, the Boileroom in Stoke Fields, Guildford, has an exciting year ahead.

The Boileroom music and arts venue in Stoke Fields, Guildford.

On Tuesday, January 30, Steve Lamacq and Radio 6 visited the venue for a live broadcast followed by a gig by Trudy and the Romance.

Spring King is set to play to a packed audience on Wednesday, January 31, and on February 20 indie/pop band Pale Waves are headlining.

This Is The Kit have just been announced as the headliners on July 18, and between now and then are events like Punk Rock Yoga and The Retro Gaming Club to keep punters amused.

The venue has been rejuvenated recently. Wood from the chairs that used to be out the back now make up the back of the bar in rustic class and the whole venue has had a clean up.

Over the last year the studio spaces at the Boileroom have been rented out to local artists. The venue now houses record label Failure By Design, Surrey and Hampshire’s Makerspace branch, a tattoo parlour and a jewellery workshop where Poppy Porter creates designs based on synaesthesia (the creation of art from interpreting sounds).

To find out about the Boileroom’s studio spaces and the local artists using them check out the community page of the Boileroom’s website.

Young musicians have the opportunity to hone their skills and play live shows during the Boileroom’s monthly The Project nights. The next event is on Monday, February 12. Young performers can join the Boileroom’s online community here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/573033376167073/

In partnership with Waitrose, the Boileroom hosts a waste food canteen. Waitrose donates food that has reached its sell by date, the Boileroom picks it up and the chefs at the venue cook it. The meals are served out of the garden on a “pay what you want” scheme.

With connections to Guildford Action and various other charities, the word is spread throughout the community and the waste food canteen has proved a success with Guildford locals.

Over Christmas the Boileroom hosted a dinner where local celebrity Stuart Henshall cooked up a feast that local residents, carers and parents enjoyed.
