Thieves have stolen a number of trophies, worth thousands of pounds, from a golf club in West Clandon during an evening raid.
More than thirty trophies, valued at around £10,000 were taken from the Clandon Regis Golf Club on Wednesday, December 11. A dark 4×4 vehicle, similar to a Jeep Cherokee, drove up to the building in Epsom Road just after 9.30pm and access was gained into the club. The same vehicle was seen to drive away at speed some minutes later.
Detective Constable Will Marsh investigating said: “I am hoping someone may have seen this vehicle being driven in the locality of the golf club either before or after the offence. I need to know what direction it was travelling in and any descriptions of who may have been in it.
“This is a burglary in which a high value haul of trophies appears to have been specifically targeted. I am appealing for anyone who may have seen these trophies for sale or been offered the items to buy in unusual circumstances to contact Surrey Police as soon as possible.
“This type of crime not only affects the golf club owners but the community of members and players who enjoy competing to win these awards. I need to hear from anyone who may have information which could help officers bring those responsible to justice.
“Please call Surrey Police with any details, you may have the snippet which could help officers locate these offenders and bring them to justice.
“I would further ask that golf clubs around the county are aware of this offence and are alert to security in and around their buildings. If any member of staff or club member notices anyone or anything suspicious they should contact Surrey Police on 101.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45130005525. Alternatively the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Shame. I think this is the seventh such robbery at a Surrey golf club in recent years.
At the beginning of this year, Surrey Police advised that these trophies should not be displayed but ‘hidden away’! Their representative said that as the trophies are usually made of solid silver, they are taken to be melted down.
