Gardeners have until June 14 to submit their entries for this year’s Guildford in Bloom competitions.

The annual awards celebrate the floral creativity of residents in transforming green spaces large and small. The closing date for entries is Friday, June 14.

The categories this year are:
• best front garden
• best business (including pubs)
• best vegetable garden
• best garden for wildlife
• best allotment
• best container garden
• best neighbourhood project.

Judging will take place in late June and early July. Judges will be looking for good design, the quality of the plants and maintenance of the gardens. Winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in September and will receive certificates.

Jonathan Sewell, business development manager, parks and leisure services, Guildford Borough Council, said: “Gardening is such a great hobby. It makes Guildford more beautiful, encourages wildlife and – for those who grow vegetables – provides a great source of fresh, healthy food. We feel it is important to recognise some of Guildford’s best gardeners. I can’t wait to see this years’ entries.

“So now spring is finally showing some signs of arriving – I would encourage any budding gardeners who are interested to send in their application”.

Call 01483 444715 or email: parks@guildford.gov.uk for an application form.

Guildford in Bloom is supported by Guildford Borough Council and organised by The Guildford In Bloom Committee.
