Surrey Half Marathon’s official launch party served as a great chance for runners already signed up for next year’s event to get some expert running and training tips.
The launch took place on September 14 at Woking Leisure Centre and the organisers say a high proportion of runners who take part in the annual county-wide event come from the borough of Guildford.
So far, 500 participants have signed up to run 13.1 miles on March 12. They benefitted from their early commitment by receiving a VIP e-invite to the launch party and discounted entry to their race.
Free one-to-one advice wasa given from the the race’s official injury and performance partner Synergy Running and Movement Centre.
Synergy spoke to runners about training plans, running technique and race day, before leading them on a guided warm-up, exclusive training run and cool down.
The Surrey Half Marathon has been the county’s largest half-marathon for the past four years, and according to a survey carried out last year, raised just under half a million pounds for charity in 2016.
The half marathon sees the return of Macmillan Cancer Support as a national charity partner for 2017, alongside Harrison’s Fund as the local charity partner. Other charity partners including Alzheimer’s Research UK, KSS Air Ambulance and Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.
In addition to the title Half Marathon event and Kids’ Race – which saw more than 500 children take part in 2016 – a brand new 5km run has been added for 2017.
Race Director Toby Jenkins said the 5km “is a very achievable distance for beginners” who want to enjoy the Surrey Half experience, but who are not ready to complete 13.1 miles, adding: “The Surrey Half Marathon 2017 will be a bigger and better event for runners, spectators, volunteer, local businesses and spectators alike. Do join us.”
