The small Traveller group, comprising just five caravans, at Bellfields Green this afternoon (July 20, 2018).

Guildford Borough Council says that Travellers who have set up a new encampment at Bellfields Green will be served with a notice directing them to leave as soon as possible.

The problem of Traveller and Gypsy incursions has been raised at the “highest levels” by Guildford’s MP Anne Milton.

In a statement, a GBC spokesperson said: “We are aware of a new traveller encampment on Bellfields Green, and are in the process of doing all we can, as quickly as possible.

“We are working with the police who are also aware of the current situation. The Travellers will be served with a notice directing them to leave as soon as possible. If the caravans and accompanying vehicles have not left the site in accordance with the direction to leave, we will take further action through the legal process.

“We are monitoring the situation and have provided the occupants with bin bags, and made arrangements to remove any rubbish.”

The statement also adviesd anyone who had any questions about encampments, or who wished to report rubbish, to contact Customer Services on 01483 505050 or email: customerservices@guildford.gov.uk.

    Broken record.

Over a year ago Runnymede Borough Council took out a High Court Injunction against a “Traveller” incursion. It was reported that the Injunction was valid against all named and unnamed persons for all RBC controlled open spaces.

There have been no incursions in Runnymede reported in media since.

There have been assurances that local councils are conferring and following best practice. So why no other High Court Injunctions? Why is nobody asking councils the question?
