Guildford borough councillor Julia McShane (Lib Dem, Westborough) tweeted this evening that the travellers had been issued with a directive late on Friday afternoon to vacate the field by 9am on Monday.

However, a reply to her tweet stated that they had left by 8.30pm, Friday.

In our previous story published on Thursday evening, Cllr McShane said she understood that Guildford Borough Council would provided the travellers with a skip and bin bags for their rubbish together with portaloos. And that the situation would be monitored and their welfare assessed together with a daily visit of the site from the parks department.

On Thursday afternoon The Guildford Dragon NEWS asked Guildford Borough Council for a comment to the situation. Its reply this morning stated: “We are aware that a number of caravans are on land at Bannisters Field and we are liaising with the travellers. In these circumstances there are set guidelines, legal and welfare processes that must be carried out before any other action can be taken.”
