The University of Surrey has been rated among the top sporting universities in the UK in the latest Which? University Student Survey.
Based on the views of more than 12,500 undergraduate students, the third annual Which? survey highlights the top-rated universities for sports, local nightlife, creative and political scenes, and a variety of student union activities.
Students were asked if sport is a large part of university life, with a wide range of organised sports teams, clubs and facilities open to all levels.
The University of Surrey featured highly among other universities including Loughborough University, the University of Bath and Durham University.
The university’s multi-million pound Surrey Sports Park opened in April 2010. Over the past four years, the university has risen quickly through the British University College Sport (BUCS) rankings from 75th in 2010, to 36th in 2014.
It has also built strong elite sporting connections through hosting various international and national sporting events and training camps, and plays host to a number of professional sports teams including Harlequins Rugby Union, England Rugby Women’s Sevens, Surrey Storm Netball, Surrey United Basketball and Surrey Smashers Badminton.
The University’s Surrey Sports Park will also become an official team base for Italy and Ireland during the Rugby World Cup 2015.
