A man in his twenties suffered an unprovoked attack while standing by a Guildford taxi rank in the early hours of Sunday September 28. Police are appealing for witnesses.
A police spokesperson said: “After a night out in Guildford the victim was standing on his own near the taxi rank by the Friary Centre while his friend went to a cash point. A group of four or five men then approached the victim and struck up a friendly conversation with him.
“It appears that without any warning or provocation one of the men in the group dragged the victim to the ground. The man was in such agony that he cried out and the group then disappeared.
“The victim has reported that the whole incident lasted no more than a matter of minutes and nothing was said and no threats were made towards him. Having attended hospital it’s been confirmed that the victim suffered a broken fibula which will take a number of weeks to heal.”
The only descriptions of the suspects are that they were all white, aged around 20-25-years-old and all wearing similar clothes.
PC Nick Ring said: “This appears to be a completely random attack on someone who was simply waiting to go home after a night out in Guildford. The injuries he sustained to his leg have left him unable to drive for eight weeks which will severely affect his quality of life.
“As the incident happened close to a busy taxi rank I’m hoping that there would be people around the area who might have seen something. If you witnessed anything or have information which will progress this investigation please contact me at Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference 45140082600 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
