A car was attacked by two men in Lawn Road, Guildford, on Saturday night (Aug 14) in what local residents suspect was a drugs-related incident.
Surrey police are said to have originally been treating it as a firearms incident until parts of a weapon found at the scene were confirmed as fake.
Tom, who did not wish his surname to be published, said the incident started at around 10.30pm when a silver Astra-like car drove down Lawn Road and pulled up by two men standing at the junction with Buryfields.
After a short conversation, the two men started to attack the car smashing windows, shouting you Albanian f****r. The driver and sole occupant of the car, blood-stained or bleeding, ran off leaving the two attackers to get into the car and drive off.
Corroborated reports say it was driven up The Mount and burnt out.
A police helicopter was deployed, it is thought, to assist police on the ground searching for suspects.
The eye-witness added that he saw blood spatters on the ground where the incident had taken place and a banknote, thought to have been dropped by one of those involved, was also recovered by the police.
Lawn Road, a residential street that leads to GBC council offices, has been the scene of suspected drug-related crime in the past while drug paraphernalia has frequently been found on The Mount.
Surrey police said today (August 16): “Officers responded to a call to a car on fire at The Mount in Guildford on Saturday, 14 August, at around 10.55pm.
“A burnt-out vehicle was found at the scene. No one was in the vehicle at the time it was set alight or crashed.
“Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and the South East Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
“We believe this is linked to a report of a vehicle that had been stolen on Lawn Road in Guildford a short time earlier the same evening.
“Enquiries are ongoing at this time.”
