FareShare is a UK-wide charity that rescues surplus nutritious, in-date food from businesses, supermarkets and farms, which includes a high proportion of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and fish.
It is then delivered to charities, schools, food banks, community pantries and fridges and other organisations serving vulnerable people.
Already operating in Sussex, it is expanding its service further into Surrey and is opening a warehouse in Guildford in the new year.
It is now recruiting volunteers to help at the warehouse. Ideally people who can give four hours a week to help fight hunger and tackle food waste in surrey.
The work will involve getting food ready for packing onto its vans or as a driver to deliver the food across Surrey.
In the past year FareShare has delivered food for 2.4 million meals supporting 17,370 people a week at risk of food poverty.
It recognises food poverty is a huge and growing problem, and adds that 13.4 million people including four million children in the UK live in households that struggle to afford to buy enough fruit, vegetables, fish and other healthy foods.
