Surrey-based care worker Ingrid Clift has co-written a song inspired by the response from society towards carers during the pandemic.

The song We Are Here and its video can be found on You Tube.

The song, We Are Here, has been recorded and a video has been made and donations are being sought to raise money for The Care Workers’ Charity.

Ingrid is employed by Home Counties Carers that is based in East Horsley. Her co-writer is her friend Kathryn Rachel Harris, who is a care worker in Wales.

Ingrid said: “We’ve chosen to support The Care Workers’ Charity with our song because of the great work they do in representing and advocating on behalf of care workers.”

The video that accompanies the song on YouTube is made up of photos of carers at work in a variety of settings – Cherry Trees at East Clandon, The Grange at Bookham and Home Counties Carers. Some of them are pictured here.

The charity supports carers and former carers who are facing financial hardship while promoting the huge contribution that the UK’s care workers make to society.

Kathryn and Ingrid met when they worked together at The Orpheus Centre in Godstone. The pair became good friends, care work united them and have remained long-distance friends.

Kathryn is a talented musician with a music composition degree. She is also a comprehensive carer and now works as an occupational therapy support worker at the Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital in Caerphilly. She also uses her musical talent in her career as a professional carer.

Ingrid added: “I asked Kathryn during lockdown if she could write a melody for the lyrics I had written to the song. The inspiration for the lyrics came from a place of pure pride in the care sector as we worked through the lockdown.

“The carers I worked with and community NHS staff just stepped up selflessly on a daily basis. Care comes first, no matter what, our duty of care is to those who depend on us, to those who are waiting for us, to those who trust us – We Are Here!”

Having written the song, Ingrid approached Surrey Music for advice, who in turn introduced her to Rachel Mason, a multi-award winning singer-songwriter, who recorded the song, with the help of Lizzi Evans and Emma Mason.

The video that accompanies the song on YouTube is made up of photos of carers at work in a variety of settings – Cherry Trees at East Clandon, The Grange at Bookham and Home Counties Carers.

The photographs, which will form part of a major forthcoming exhibition celebrating carers and the work that they do, were taken by photographer Haley Woodward and the video was edited by Tim Stannard.

A Facebook page has also been created to promote the song and the cause.

Donations can be made via a JustGiving page that has been set up.
