Many thanks to all who replied to last week’s mystery images.
The vintage picture postcard view was of Epsom Road with Down Road on the corner with the building once being a sub-post office.
A number of readers gave details of it in their replies.
Kathryn’s House, as seen in the quirky picture, is in Farnham Road, just down from the hospital. Again, extra details of it were given in some of the replies.

Another turn of the century picture postcard this time and a wooden footbridge that once spanned the river at Guildford. Do you know the location?
Staying with the theme of water, the quirky picture shows a fountain in a small lake. Can you name the location?
Any extra details with your replies are always welcome.
The answers, along with the next pair of images, will be published at about the same time next week.

1) The bridge was situated by Guildford Rowing Club

The Rustic Bridge was over the river just downstream of the Guildford Rowing Club bend, the house in the background being Quarry Gate.
It doesn’t appear on an 1896 OS map but is on a 1916 one.
Francis Frith has a photo dated 1909 entitled River Wey New Footbridge.

The rustic bridge is opposite Guildford Rowing Club – be nice to have it back!

The bridge crosses the river between the Weyside and the rowing club.
In the background is a house at the entrance to Great Quarry. The bridge was replaced and a sort of promenade added, but I leave others to say when and why.
I’m thinking the fountain is on university parkland.

The bridge over the River Wey was from the towpath to Quarry Street, just before the bend where Guildford Rowing Club has its boathouse.

The wooden footbridge, opened in 1909, was near the Jolly Farmer on Quarry Street. It was replaced in 1934 by the present footbridge.

It’s the bridge over the River Way near the rowing club.
At first we thought the fountain was Lake Geneva, but now we think it’s Clandon Park (because of your photo of the gates a few weeks ago).

The bridge – Quarry Street. I used to work in a house on the hill almost directly opposite the bridge.
The lake – the University of Surrey.
