Here’s the second of an occasional series that features old photos of events and things going on in Guildford, and which your memories of and extra details would be most welcome.
The column is partly inspired by the wonderful collection of images taken by the late Dave Salmon and now in the safe custody of rambling railwayman Geoff Burch.
Here we have another carnival procession, this time making its way along Woodbridge Road, and photographed by Dave Salmon.
The date would appear to be about the early 1980s.
Can you add some details about those taking part? Does anyone look familiar?

By the look of their uniforms, I would say that is an air cadet band.
Whether the current Squadron 261 was in existemce back then I don’t know.

The girls in the Colborne Garages car, perhaps one of them is the carnival queen; and following them, that looks like an English Civil War re-enacters group.

Are there any more Guildford carnival photos? I remember being a child sat on one of the floats in the 80’s, going along Stoke Road, into the Stoke Park car park. If anyone has photos of this please do share, I would love to see them.

The Morris Dancers are Pilgrim Morris of Guildford and, behind them, Mayflower Morris of Ash, a women’s team. Both teams are still going today.
