From Fairlands WI
Are you the kind of person who could step into the breech and save the day at Fairlands WI?
The president and secretary are stepping down at the November annual meeting and, so far, no-one has offered their services to take over these roles.
Fairlands has been a very successful WI and has a membership of over 40. The members enjoy interesting monthly meetings and contribute to events in the local community. After 52 years it would be a great shame if it were to fold. If you could help, please contact Jenny Page on 01483 538426.
At the September meeting members and visitors enjoyed some beautiful slides of “Wisley Gardens and Beyond” presented by Joan Cuthbert who is a Wisley enthusiast and a talented photographer.
Many Fairlands members are regular visitors to the gardens. They were also shown photographs of other gardens such as Sheffield Park and Chelsea Flower Show. This was a feast for the eyes but, unfortunately, the scent of the blooms could not be shared.
The competition in September was for a sun hat and there was an attractive raffle and gifts of sweets for members whose birthdays fell in August and September.
On October 12 the meeting will feature “Canine Partners, Assist Dogs”. We shall learn about how dogs help disabled people. As this will be an open meeting, friends and family of all ages can join in. The competition will be for a photo or a picture of an animal – cute or funny.
Fairlands WI meets on the second Wednesday of each month at Fairlands Community Centre starting at 8pm. Visitors to meetings pay a nominal sum of £2. If you are interested in finding out more about us, call Jenny Page, president, on 01483 538426 or Angela Linington, secretary, on 01483 233967.
